This season our team has planned to perform a greater amount of community outreach events now that many places and organizations have been reopened with the current lull of the previous pandemic.
Over the summer of 2022, the Green Cove library graciously offered our team a spot during their summer programs to showcase our robot and give a brief introduction to FIRST. We made a slideshow presentation to introduce the different leagues of FIRST robotics, giving a quick overview of what each league entails. After our presentation, we showcased our robot and its capabilities for omnidirectional movement and its arm. At the end of the program, we allowed the program participants to test-drive the robot and take pictures with the team.
The month of November 2022 provided our team with two opportunities to participate in community events.
- On November 1, members of our team participated in a school-run Trunk or Treat. We decorated a trunk with various Halloween decorations, and to incorporate robotics into our display we created an obstacle course to be navigated by our miniature robot. Kids that came by were taught how to drive the robot and were given a chance to run through the course
- On November 15th, we participated in a school-run food drive. One of our coaches, Mrs. Howington, opened herself up to collect canned and nonperishable food items for Thanksgiving. With the goods she collected, as well as those collected by other people, our team assisted in putting together boxes of food for various families. We worked with various other groups and clubs to put these boxes together to assist those in need this holiday season.
